Reflexology

What is Reflexology?

A good foot massage is one of lifes most satisfying pleasures. With knowledge, it can also be a non-invasive & extremely effective method of treating ailments and promoting overall wellness.

Reflexology is a therapy in which pressure is applied to distinct areas of the feet to enhance overall physical, emotional, and mental health.

When the body is out of balance, it does not function efficiently. By stimulating the reflexes on the feet, an involuntary response is elicited in organs and glands, through the meridians,(energy pathways) to help the body return to a balanced state.

It is hard to say when reflexology was first used. The oldest known documentation of reflexology is depicted on the wall of the tomb of an Egyptian physician around 2330-2500 B.C.

If we regard foot massage as a simple type of reflexology, then we can say it is as old as the human race.

But there is a definite difference between foot massage and reflexology, although both benefit the body, mind, and soul.
Reflexology is specific pressure techniques, on precise reflex points based on the premise that reflex areas on the feet correspond with all parts of the human body. Reflex points are found on the feet, hands, and ears. The reflex points on the feet are easier to locate, & more specific, making them more beneficial to work on.
Traditionally reflexologist have worked with the theory of energy zones, and this has contributed to the development of the western reflexology therapy. We believe that stimulation of the reflex points and the effect that it elicits, are partially due to the results of stimulating the six meridians that run through the feet.  Combining the use of stimulation of the meridians, along with stimulation of the reflex points, assists the body in returning to a place of balance.

Our Reflexology treatments don't isolate a disease and treat it symptomatically, or work specifically on a problem organ or system. Reflexology works on the whole person with the intention of inducing a state of balance and harmony.

What is a Meridian?

Meridians are located throughout the body. They are the pathways of energy which carry communication between body organs & body parts. They can be thought of as our electrical system. Part of the efficacy of reflexology is believed to be the result of stimulating and revitalizing this energy flow.

What to Expect from a Reflexology Session

Because reflexology stimulates the bodies own healing ability, it is important to understand that when your body starts to heal itself you may experience the following:

  • Sinus Drainage
  • Colon Release
  • Revitalized Energy
  • Mental Clarity
  • Better Digestion

You will benefit the most from reflexology if you choose to have a session once or twice a week for approximately 4-8 weeks. This gives the body a chance to reprogram its cells to a state of well being. After that a session once a month or so, should help keep you in balance.
